Ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy (UGFS) is a minimally invasive treatment option for the treatment of varicose veins. It involves injecting a solution (called a sclerosant) into a vein. The solution irritates the lining of the diseased vein causing the vein to turn into scar tissue and fade. The procedure is highly tolerable and able to be performed in an outpatient setting in our custom-built clinic.
Patients are able to return to normal activities immediately post-procedure.
The procedure takes approximately 30-60 minutes.
Treatments are followed by application of compression stockings, which must be worn for approximately 2 weeks post-procedure.
