Your first visit
Your first appointment combines a consultation with Dr McConnell and a venous duplex ultrasound. It takes about 45 to 60 minutes. The ultrasound is done on site by our sonographer or Dr McConnell, and it shows which veins aren't working properly and why. You leave with a clear diagnosis and a treatment plan made for you.
With a GP referral, you can claim a Medicare rebate for the consultation, and the ultrasound is bulk billed. See our

Your treatment options
Dr McConnell will explain your options, including when treatment isn't needed and when compression stockings or monitoring are the better choice. Treatments include endovenous laser ablation, radiofrequency ablation, medical glue (VenaSeal), ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy, ambulatory phlebectomy, and microsclerotherapy for spider veins.

Treatment and follow-up
Treatment can be done in our rooms under local anaesthetic, or at the Mater Hospital, North Sydney, with an anaesthetist. Patients walk straight after treatment, wear compression stockings for about two weeks, and return to work within 24 to 48 hours, depending on how physical their job is. Every patient has a follow-up ultrasound to check the treated veins.
